Sevilla & Sevillanas a Dos Guitarras

Sevilla - Suite Española Op. 47 (sevillana) Composed by Isaac Albéniz and performed by Andrea Gonzalez.

Like all of Albéniz’s iconic pieces for classical guitar, this one started out as a piano piece — Albéniz was a pianist. It is considered a standard in the classical guitar repertoire along with several other pieces by the composer. Sevilla, along with Granada, Cataluña & Cuba were all part of Albéniz’s Suite Española. This particular piece is largely based on a Spanish folk dance called sevillana.

Sevillanas a Dos Guitarra (sevillana). Composed & performed by Paco de Lucía and Manolo Sanlúcar.

This is the 2nd sevillana in the Inspirational Video series. If you remember from the previous one, this style is actually a folk dance that was incorporated into flamenco music with the addition of the Andalcuían cadence and the Spanish Phrygian scale. Its origins lie in the 18th-century Spanish seguidilla which was played exclusively in a major key. In this video two flamenco guitar legends play an original and very virtuosic sevillana composition.
