This week's classical guitar performance is Prelude No 1. by Heitor Villa-Lobos, performed by Tatyana Ryhzkova.
I encourage you to listen to this recording twice: first for pure enjoyment and second — on a different day — to listen closely to the expressiveness of the performance. In both cases, really make time to do this so that you can dedicate your attention to the recording rather than have it playing as background music. Think of this as if you were going to watch a live concert. Then find a relaxing place to sit where you won’t be disturbed, turn up the volume, and listen with your eyes closed.
Prelude No. 1. Composed by Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959, Brazil) and performed by Tatyana Ryzhkova
Villa-Lobos was arguably the most prolific composer and classical guitarist of the 20th century. In addition to composing for guitar, he also wrote numerous works for orchestra, voice, and various other instruments. By the end of his career, Villa-Lobos had published over 2,000 original pieces. The piece for today is considered an important standard for the classical guitar.
