Diego Alonso | Music
El Choclo (comp. by Angel Villoldo in 1903; arr. by Roland Dyens) performed by Tatyana Ryzhkova. El Choclo is considered one of the most famous Argentinian tangos in history. The title," "choclo," means "cooked corn on the Cobb" in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay & Perú and the original piece actually included lyrics which talk about eating "choclo!" This is the late Roland Dyens' beautiful arrangement of Vzilloldo's composition.
Casilda (Tanguillos) composed & performed by Paco de Lucía. The "tanguillo" is another style in the flamenco genre characterized by it's lively and very syncopated rhythm (in 4/4 time). The original tanguillo from the mid 1800s was a folkloric style of music and singing called the "tango Gaditano" (i.e, the tango from Cádiz). It continues to be a staple of Cadiz's 10-day Carnaval where groups sing and play original and very funny tanguillos that are often politically inspired. Paco de Lucía's instrumental version here was the first of its kind and inspiration to other flamenco creators.
