El Cobre (sevillana). Composed by Paco de Lucía (1947-2014, Spain) and performed by Juan de Dios Tamayo.
If you remember from the previous post on sevillanas, this style is actually a folk dance that was incorporated into flamenco music with the addition of the Andalcuían cadence and the Spanish Phrygian scale. Its origins lie in the 18th-century Spanish seguidilla which was played exclusively in a major key. You can hear the original studio version played by paco de Lucia here.
Se Ela Perguntar. Composed by Dilermando dos Santos Reis (1916-1977, Brazil) and performed by David Russell.
Resi was a prolific guitarist, music teacher, and composer who recorded 23 LPs as a solo guitarist. This piece is a waltz with a very memorable melody. David Russell has interpreted several of Reis' compositions and happens to be one of my favorite classical guitarists. Enjoy!
