Diego Alonso is a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, tres, percussion, voice), composer, and teacher based in Miami, FL. who specializes in flamenco, flamenco jazz, classical, Latin, and Latin jazz inspired music. He performs as a soloist and with his Flamenco Latin Jazz Project, Flamenco Music & Dance Ensemble, and Spanish Guitar Duo. Diego Alonso is also an expert lecturer on Flamenco history, music, and dance and travels across the country to give lectures and presentations on the topic.
Diego Alonso began studying brass instruments at the age of 8 and guitar at age 17. He has been composing, performing, and teaching across the globe since 2002 and has shared the stage with a long list of prominent musicians from all genres of music including Miguel Vargas (flamenco dance), Kinan Abou-Afach (cello and composition), Ale el Cano (flamenco voice), Rocío Márquez (flamenco voice), Ronnie Malley (oud and vocals), Darwin Noguera (jazz piano), Victor Garcia (jazz trumpet), Alberto Sellés (flamenco dance), Fulcrum Point New Music Project (contemporary classical), and a long etcetera.
As a composer, performer, and teacher Diego has traveled to over 15 countries. He has participated in hundreds of highly acclaimed festivals and stages including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Gran Teatro de Huelva (Spain), Chicago Flamenco Music Festival, Ciclo Flamenco Otoño (Spain), Instituto Cervantes Stockholm (Sweden), Polski Teatr (Poland), Pabst Theater (WI), City Winery, (Chicago), Instituto Cervantes Chicago, and many more.
Diego graduated with Highest Honors in Flamenco Guitar Performance from the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco (Seville, Spain) where he studied under some of flamenco's most respected master educators and performers (Pedro Sierra, Niño de Pura, Paco Cortés, Eduardo Rebollar, Tino Van Der Sman, Javi Gomez, and Pepa Sanchez) In addition to his studies in flamenco music, Diego has taken master classes and workshops with Flavio Rodrigues, Jose Luis Rodriguez, and Juan Carmona (flamenco), Denis Azabagic (classical), David Bloom (jazz), John Moulder (jazz), and studied classical guitar for 3 years (Loyola U Chicago). Diego is currently (2019-2020) pursuing his Masters degree in Flamencology (Musicology/Ethnomusicology & Pedagogy in Flamenco) at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain).
Diego Alonso is the founder and director of Sonanta Music Productions and The Sonanta School of Guitar.
